The ice fountain and relaxation room overlooking the Zen garden would take the edge off within seconds. The gym and pool round out the healthy activity sites in the hotel. There is a restaurant with an extensive Irish menu as well as a cocktail bar with themed lounges. Overlooking Lough Atalia near Galway Bay, the views are decidedly refreshing and serene. In-room bathrobes and slippers are part of the standard coddling of guests to lounge in as they use the free WiFi.
The polar opposite of the luxury stay is the budget hostel for about 23. These money-saving rooms are clean, bright and updated, if staying with a mixed group of six or eight is acceptable. A common room with a flat-screen TV and a kitchen are open to all guests and free WiFi is usually in public areas of the hotel. The Barnacles Quay Street House is in this category and is a five-minute walk from the bus and train stations. It is in the center of the city near shopping and dining areas. There are no children under 16 permitted, and if older ones are present, a family room must be booked; no minors in mixed rooms. The Barnacles asks for a damage and noise deposit on arrival for groups of four or more.
The middle level hotels in between the luxury and budget categories seem luxurious in comparison to the basic hostels. The Carlton Suites Hotel in Galway offers rooms for 79-89 and plenty of perks come with them. The health club and the indoor 22-yard pool are two such indications, and the gym, sauna and jacuzzi are part of this. Each suite has a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and dishwasher, and of course crockery, but there is a restaurant in the hotel and an informal bar. This hotel has free WiFi, which seems standard in Galway. Laundry and dry cleaning are on hand if necessary. Children under 12 stay free and the main shopping area in Galway is a five-minute walk from the hotel.
The Pillo Hotel is rated as four-star and also has a spa. The Wards Hotel, in the budget category, has traditional music every Wednesday night. The Sea Breeze Lodge, overlooking Galway Bay, has memory foam mattresses, an attractive plus. There are Galway hotels to suit every taste, and in pleasurable milieus.
