Much of the city was rebuilt after the war, but it fell into decline with the collapse of the fishing industry. However, recent years have seen an extensive program of urban renewal, with economic growth in several exciting new areas notably tourism and the leisure industry. Relics remain, however. In 2006, worrying evidence was unearthed that suggested an unexploded wartime bomb may be located under the aptly-named retail and leisure development, The Boom.
The city is unusual in having cream-coloured, rather than red telephone boxes. This is because it is Britain's only city with its own independent telephone system - Kingston Communications (now KC), established in 1902. The KC Stadium is home to Hull Town football and rugby clubs, and a popular venue for corporate entertainment.
