Hindu HolidaysIndia, being a culturally and religiously diverse, celebrates various holidays and festivals. There are three national holidays in India: states and regions have local festivals depending on prevalent religious and linguistic demographics. Popular religious celebrations are the Hindu Holidays of Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Dussehra, Muslim Holidays and Islamic festival of Eid ul-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Mawlid an-Nabi and Christian holidays of Christmas and the days of celebrations such as Good Friday observed throughout the country.
Muharram mourning for the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad is seen in some sects of Islam. In addition, festivals such as Guru Nanak Jayanti Sikh, Christian holidays like Christmas, Good Friday and Jain festivals as Mahavira Jayanti, Paryushan are held in certain areas where these religions have an important annual holiday following. The are widely observed by state and local governments, however, may alter the compliance dates and add or subtract holidays according to local custom.

The word festival means feast day, festive celebration. As children, when before all we had festivals came to mind was sweet holiday and that in turn meant a lot of fun. India is a society of religions there are many festivals in May much. Diwali for Hindus is, for Muslims there is no identification, Christmas for Christians and Parsis is the New Year and apart from all these days there are two other days that are celebrated by all Indians irrespective of caste, creed or sex.
