Helping Your Accent when You Learn French Fast
Share: Helping Your Accent when You Learn French Fast
As you try to pronounce more and more French words, you'll start to hear your own accent to some degree. Oftentimes, students who learn French fast develop some rather sloppy pronunciation skills. This can make it difficult to correct your pronunciations in the future, as they become ingrained habits. To make sure that you're saying everything correctly, you sometimes have to be creative with how you learn.
Singing can help you both learn French fast and overcome the difficulties of pronunciation. When you sing, your voice is freed up from your accent. This is why singers seldom have any accent at all, unless they're using one for effect. A good example of this can actually be found in bluegrass singers. Many of them have very heavy, southern US accents because of the regional roots of the music. When they sing, however, they have a much-diminished accent in their voices, if they retain one at all.
This freedom from your regular speech habits is integral of you want to not only learn French fast, but also to speak it well. To do so, you'll have to master some odd vowels and consonants and some very complex rules for the way words are joined to one another. When you try to do all of this in your speaking voice, the results can sometimes be discouraging. It's usually much easier to learn to sing words first and then to correct your pronunciations when your speaking to make them more closely match those used when you sing.
Share: Of course, singing can be intimidating on its own! If you want to learn French fast, however, you'll have to get over insecurities about your voice. When you get that confidence to take risks and to sing out loudly, you'll find that the help it lends to your overall efforts makes it well worth overcoming this insecurity.
Consider using song as a way to help you get past problems mastering French pronunciations. Remember that they can be quite difficult for English speakers and don't let this discourage you. French is one of the most popular languages among English speakers and huge numbers of people are fluent speakers. When they master the pronunciations, their accents when they speak French don't make them harder to understand and, like foreigners speaking English, their accents oftentimes make them interesting to listen to and lend an air of class.
