HSM 40VL Baler Review

In a busy environment, industrial size shredders have the potential to create huge amounts of waste

. Most often that waste is tossed into a recycling bin or large trash container. But for many businesses, it makes more sense to compact the waste for efficient storage until picked up. Enter the HSM 40VL Baler. Designed for use with HSM's FA400.2 or FA500.2 shredders, this machine quickly compresses shredded material into easily managed bales for recycling. Here is a closer look at the details of the 40VL Baler.

Strengths:

This machine offers extremely high output in compact bales ready for recycling. Massive shredding amounts are quickly processed by the powerful hydraulic system. The bales measure 23.5" x 15.7" x 19.6" and can be easily stacked while waiting to be picked up for recycling.

An easy to use control panel offers simple, safe, and efficient operation. Wear-free hydraulics require very little maintenance to stay in optimal working condition. The connections between the shredder and baler are designed to be dust-free. This cuts down on clean up but also reduces wear and erosion within the machine, giving you longer service life from your baler.

The modern technology used to build the baler provides a lower noise level as compared to other machines. It also delivers energy conserving operation, saving you money on electricity.

The hydraulic system compresses paper remnants with 3.5 tons of pressure. It takes about 9 seconds for compression. Bales weigh about 70 to 90 pounds and are made at a rate of six bales an hour. They make it much easier to store shredded waste, since the bales can be stacked in an out of the way corner or along the wall.

HSM guarantees this baler with a one year warranty on parts and labor.

Weaknesses:

Weighing around 884 pounds when empty, this is a very heavy piece of machinery. There are casters on the bottom for extra mobility, allowing the baler to be rolled around if needed. While this may still be a bulky and awkward process, this isn't a major complaint from most users.

There isn't a way to added non-shredded waste to the bale. This may or may not be an issue for your business, depending on your needs. If you are looking for a machine with this ability, we suggest the next model up, the K80.

This baler can only be used with one of two shredders, the FA400.2 and FA500.2. It is fairly typical that shredders and balers are designed in conjunction with one another. HSM builds other baler models for use with their different industrial shredders.

Overall, the 40VL Baler is an excellent addition to an HSM industrial shredder. It's unfortunate that those who own the 400.2 don't have much of a choice in the way of balers but since this one is so well equipped, it shouldn't be much of an issue. Heavy pressure powered by sturdy hydraulics quickly renders paper confetti into a compact waste block ready for recycling. Any business with colossal amounts of shredding and not much storage space would highly benefit from the addition of this machine. We think the 40VL Baler is a perfect complement to your office.
