Some of the steps you can follow to decrease your energy costs include: Use office equipment with energy saving features Replace incandescent lights (standard, flood, halogen) or T12 fluorescent lights with CFs or LEDs to reduce energy use Replace office equipment with Energy Star rated appliances Your business can save a significant amount of money by reducing waste. Waste reduction results in lower waste removal costs, and also cut costs on raw materials, office supplies and equipment. By implementing practices to reduce waste you can improve your companys efficiency and productivity. Your company can start minimizing its waste by using less paper. There are various alternative ways for your company to communicate without using paper, such as phone, email, texting, online meetings and so forth. Keep copies of important emails and files on your computer or store them online, and send company updates through email instead of on paper. When printing is necessary, try printing on both sides of the paper if your printer supports duplex printing. Use old sheets of paper for scrap paper or note-taking. Start a recycling program in your company. Think of ways to reuse old items. Refill your ink cartridges. There are many office supply stores that take back ink cartridges and give you discounts when you purchase new ones. Use real, reusable coffee cups instead of buying paper ones. Reuse cardboard boxes from shipped supplies for your own shipping and recycle what you can not use. By working from home whenever possible, you can save travel costs through telecommuting. Consider having some employees telecommute from home couple of days a month and teleconference their meetings to save energy and time.
