GOLF BOOKS ONLINE BUYING GUIDE
The process of learning a new skill is a complicated one
. And trying to get to grips with the intricacies of the noble art of playing golf has been an ongoing battle for me. Most of all because I am not very teachable I know from experience. All the help and instructions of a well-meaning pro and the never-ending patience of my partner trying to show me the ropes around the course, only resulted in me being confused, upset and demotivated, wanting to throw out my clubs. I am familiar with my process by now, of learning I mean. And I know that the only one who can teach me is me.How did I end up again in this struggling situation? Some years ago my life took a mayor turn when I met and fell in love with a golf crazy guy, sharing my life with him since. Until then my experience of and exposure to his favorite sport had been limited. I had contemplated at one time to take up playing golf, because it involves a lot of walking in nice surroundings. I thought that might make the game of interest to me, because I like doing that, walking in nice surroundings. But it hadn't gone beyond that. There are many opportunities to walk in beautiful landscapes without having to try to move a ball into a hole hitting it with a stick. And I can do it accompanied by my dog, which is off limits on most golf courses.
However, one day I found myself with a club in hands on the driving range trying to hit balls. Apparently not too bad, because my love made very approving noises about my swing, power and talent. And that's where the learning process started and it seemed easy enough. But being able to hit a ball on the driving range didn't mean I could play golf, I soon found out. With the elevation from the little peg gone, I started plowing the course. So engrossed on just hitting the ball, I lost all sense of direction. Not only on the course but also in my head. Teaching by example made it only worse.
I realized that I needed to know more about the game. I wanted to read books about it. That's how it works with me. I read the instructions, concentrate on them and start visualizing the process of executing the instructions in my mind. I suppose it is comparable to the top sportsman or woman preparing for an important performance by rehearsing it over and over again internally. I have to admit that this knowledge came to me from one of the books I much later read on the mental side of the game of golf.
And so I went in search of golf books. This turned out to be a bit of an obstacle. I went to my local book store to make my choice. Well, there wasn't any choice. As was the case in the next book shop I visited. Of course I found a book that seemed interesting and useful to me in the end. But after that first one, I really wanted a more specialist book, a wider range to choose from and more information than is on the back flap.
I was advised to try my luck on the internet. I have to admit that I wasn't used to online shopping until then. But it grabbed me completely and I have made it into a hobby to collect information for golf books and golf ebooks that are available online.
