Flights During The Holidays: Are You Crazy?
Share: Air travel is one way to get to a holiday destination quicker
. There are limited amount of days to vacation over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Some destinations depend on air travel to get the visitors to them due to flying over oceans or mountain terrain. If you find yourself looking for flights this holiday season, you are not alone. There are some tips to help make getting to your holiday spot a little less hectic.
When you book your flight consider going nonstop if possible. The flight may actually cost more. However, it is well worth it. Weather can be tricky during the holiday months. It is best to get the flight on its way and to its destination.
Also the airports will be extremely crowded. If you do not want to wait at a crowded airport for your connecting flight then go direct. There is also the possibility that your first leg will not reach the connecting flight in time. Sometimes the turnaround times are extremely close without the added holiday flights and traffic. It is definitely worth consideration.
Do not wait until you reach the airport to check in with the airlines. The airport will be crowded to over capacity with incoming and outgoing passengers. It is best to use online check in and print your boarding pass at home. Once you arrive at the airport, you can go straight to the boarding gate. If you need to check bags and you are already checked in, many airlines have lines that are specifically for just dropping off bags. You may not need to wait in the long initial check in line.
Share: These days' airlines are not checking in and keeping bags together reliably. They may misplace a bag and it gets assigned to a wrong flight. To eliminate stress, try to carry on what you need during your vacation. This sounds difficult but the accommodation whether family, friends or hotel will probably have laundry facilities and chances are you will only be staying a few days anyways.
Ship gifts prior to the flight. This will save money as well as your mind. Shipping gifts can get to their destination within a few days. You can even send overnight if that is what you would like to do. Prices increase the quicker the shipping option.
During the holidays, airport security is crazy. It is filled with adults and children, some happy and some very loud and sad. To ease this stress, arrive very early. It is better to be waiting at the boarding gate reading a book than stressing about the time it is taking to get through security. Remember to minimize the wait in the security line. Follow their rules. Do not bring along items that they may have to confiscate. Take off extra jewelry and store in a purse or bag going with you. Remember to have your boarding pass and photo identification handy. Wear shoes that are easy to slip off and put back on quickly. Try to forgo shoes with laces. It holds up the line.
Flying during the holidays does not need to be a nightmare. Start with a good attitude, use your common sense and you will be able to breath a sigh of relief as you make your flight in time. Your awaiting friends and family will appreciate it and you will enjoy your vacation more.
