Does The Customer Provide The Insurance For The Courier Driver?
Share: People that are new to using courier services are unsure as to how a lot of the process works
. They may have questions as to what they as the customer are responsible for and what are the responsibilities of the Chicago courier that they may be hiring. One of these questions may pertain to who provides insurance for the courier driver. If you hire a courier service to transport an item across town is the customer responsible to have enough insurance coverage for the courier driver? What if they are transporting something across the state or even to another state?
The answer to both of these questions is, no. The Chicago courier company that you hired is responsible for carrying not only the insurance to protect your package from damage, but the driver of the delivery vehicle as well. This coverage for the driver includes protection for the vehicles also. These policies are purchased by the courier companies to protect themselves from any liability on their part that may arise from the damage caused by the drivers of one of their vehicles. The policies are underwritten to include protection in the event of an accident, damage to the vehicle from a weather event, damage caused by an uninsured driver and many other events that cannot be expected.
Share: The courier service will also carry a policy to cover any damage that may happen to the packages they have been hired to transport. This again is to protect the company from any liability that may arise if one of these packages, most of which are expensive, gets damaged while in their care. This protection is provided through a special courier insurance that is specifically designed to be taken out on shipments and deliveries. The coverage extends to damage caused by weather, theft, vandalism and even the event of a car accident.
All of this means that you as the customer do not have to worry about providing the insurance on a courier driver in the event that you want to hire a courier service. This doesn't mean that you won't end up paying for the insurance anyway as most courier services will add the cost of the insurance into the prices they charge to deliver your package. This could be done by the company just adding the cost in when they figure out how much they have to charge to still make a profit or they may have it itemized out on your bill. But, even if you have to pay for the insurance you are not the one responsible for taking out a policy for the driver.
