Describing Media Banners

Technology today allows us to use wide-format digital printers to obtain state-of-the-art outdoors and indoors banners

. Banners come in different sizes and types, made of particular materials, according to their purpose, using specific types of inks. Each banner category requires a special type of ink; for example, for outdoors banners printing, we should use inks that are weather proof. The client can design its own banners and then specialized companies will print, trim and seam them. The other option is that specialized companies handle all the banner media creating stages, from banners design to installment.

Advertising is the main purpose of purchasing and using banners today. The market competition is extremely fierce, and media banners are considered a valuable resource to catch peoples attention and boost profits. The highest the quality of the banner is, the more customers it is possible to attract. Not only the design and the message they transmit is important, but also good image quality and dot control are important in these large-format graphics. Banners fall into two major categories, judging by the location where they will be displayed: indoors banners and outdoors banners, each category making use of specific materials. Banners each have different degrees of mate and gloss finishes.

One can choose from different types of media banners, according to their usage: frontlit, backlit, block-out, mesh banners, etc. Each category has different features. For example, frontlit banners are usually flame-retardant and with very good UV stability. The textile strength needs to be high enough. Another category of banners are mesh banners. They are outdoors dedicated, for sport competitions, for wrapping windows and fences, etc. Mesh banners use a material with a strong polyester base fabric, displaying a high-quality image and good dot control. As a drawback, mesh banners have a lightweight substrate and do not resist very well against the wind.

It is possible to create one-sided banners, or two-sided banners. As regards two-sided banners, they have a polyester block-out layer, resulting in light blocking and full opacity. Companies sometimes employ specific systems to display banner material.

When choosing the ink to use, one can select from several options: eco-solvent inks, solvent inks, UV-IV curable, etc. Water based inkjet produces opaque rollup graphics with sharp image definition, high contrast, and a good resistance to scratches.
