WHAT'S INSIDE ROCKET FRENCH?
Rocket French can be purchased as a downloadable software or as a CD set that can be mailed to your home. Inside you will find audio recordings, special software games, videos, and more. In addition to that, you are given access to a "Learning Lounge" where you can test your skills, and connect with other users and teachers.
The idea behind the system is to try to teach French by "visual association". "Visual association" is the same way you first learned to speak. You SAW something and HEARD the word for it at the same time. In this manner you quickly and effortlessly picked up the meanings of words. Rocket French aims to duplicate this process with the use of software, audio, and video.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
Rocket French is a powerful way to learn French, IF you are sincere and willing to put in time on a regular basis. Ideally, you should attempt to work with the lessons for a little time every day (at least 30 min - 1 hr a day). The individual lessons are engineered to build on each other. Therefore, being consistent is very important.
Picking up a language is much like learning to ride a bike. For the first little while you might think that you aren't getting anywhere. If you persist, however, you will hit a point where things suddenly "fall into place". You will find yourself creating sentences without effort and hearing most of the words in the audio recordings.
You can then add more vocabulary and advanced grammar to your repertoire.
IS IT THE BEST WAY TO GO FOR EVERY STUDENT?
Some people find it difficult to focus if there is no outside pressure like an upcoming "exam" or a teacher checking their "homework".
Rocket French is a self-paced system. It is very powerful but you have to provide the consistency yourself.
If you feel you need the pressure of a class situation in order to take action, look into a class at a local college. Remember, however, that classroom instruction will cost much more and will take longer.
