Christmas In Chicago- An Experience Like No Other
With the onset of Thanksgiving in some states in the US like Chicago its also the
beginning of celebrations for Christmas, which will culminate on the 25th. Chicago is always lit up, and decked out in Christmas decorations, and dressed up Santas walk through the streets from the beginning of December itself.For visitors making there way to Chicago during the festive season, the city has many street shows and parties to make one get into the spirit of merry making. Macys offers a major unveiling of their huge Christmas tree at State Street. The Christmas tree is decorated with many lights and unveiled each year during the festival of Thanksgiving.
In addition to this they also offer some special seasonal treats and a warm meal which could be enjoyed beneath the glittering tree. The unveiling has now become part of a traditional way of kick starting the season.
An event especially for the whole family to enjoy is the Christmas Around the World exhibit which is put together by the Museum of Science and Industry each year. The exhibit offers interactive displays for children and a huge stage, where performers lead the way in carols and other festive shows.
Another traditional favourite in Chicago are the Zoo Lights. This is a festival of lights put on at the Lincoln Park Zoo. The zoo is lit up with lights and festive decorations and takes approximately and hour to get through the whole exhibit. The lights have been used to recreate scenes which are animated and all include seasonal themes.
Most families have come to consider a visit to the Zoo Lights Festival as a tradition. In addition to the lights the zoo sometimes hosts sessions of ice sculpture as well as seasonal crafts along with the usual photo with Santa sessions as well. For those who dont have the time to visit with Santa at the Lincoln Park Zoo, could catch him at the Daley Plaza where he is said to make an annual appearance.
Aside from these events, a visit to the Christkindl Market located at the Lincoln Square is a must. The square plays host to the annual party called the Joy of Toys party. The Reindog Parade is quite amusing and is put together by Chicagos Botanic Garden. Whether travelling alone or with family including some of the above events into ones itinerary is sure to brighten up a visit to Chicago during this festive season.
The staff at a Chicago hotel such as the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago, would be more than willing to extend a festive spirit to visitors of the city. The hotel is centrally located to many shopping and business districts in Boston, and would a great place to spend the holidays.
