Choice Care Group Chief Executive To Retire

Share: Choice Care Group Chief Executive Paul Gold has announced he will shortly be stepping
down from his position, after 17 years with the Reading-based company.
Edwina Johnston, the Groups Chief Operating Officer, will take on Pauls responsibilities and David Cole, the Groups chairman, will also be taking on a greater role in the day-to-day management.
Edwina joined Choice Care Group in 2002 as Finance Director and has been intimately involved in every aspect of the Groups growth and success.
Paul will retire from Choice Care Group at the end of December and is set to take up a new role with the companys financial backers, Sovereign Capital, where he will advise on the development of their existing and future healthcare investments. Pauls retirement follows the highly successful organic and acquisitive growth achieved by the Group since the management buyout in 2002.
Commenting on Pauls retirement Edwina said: We would like to thank Paul for his tremendous vision and commitment over the past 17 years and for building Choice into the leading provider of residential care that it is today. Because of Paul, through Choice, many adults with severe learning difficulties have greatly benefited from the Groups high standards of service and care.
Paul added: Having been with Choice from the start, I feel a huge attachment to it it was always going to be a big decision to move on but it feels like the right time, and Im handing over a company in great shape to a team I have complete confidence in.
Since 1992, we have grown from four homes and 26 beds to 39 homes with 303 beds and successfully integrated our two main acquisitions, Truecare and Orchard End. I feel very proud of what weve achieved here and we couldnt have done it all without the support of the board of directors, the unending encouragement from Sovereign and, in particular, the contribution from every member of our fantastic staff, to whom I am very grateful.
While I will undoubtedly miss the day-to-day involvement at Choice, Sovereign has got some very interesting ideas and Im looking forward to helping develop their plans for the future.
