Challenge Your Conditioning And Improve Your Current Lifestyle

Challenge Your Conditioning And Improve Your Current Lifestyle

We all may live a large portion of life never questioning what we have been taught

. We go along with this sort of mentality, unaware of what other realities are possible for our lives. Escaping this mental prison and reclaiming our own individuality and lifestyle is the task we must accept if we are to improve our health. It is extremely challenging and rewarding. And, when you start to wake up and look around, you will find many other intelligent people on the same path.

So how are we trapped in our own little world? You might find that you are completely surrounded and enveloped by it. It is the accepted beliefs and false concepts about the world that drain our life force. It is a kind of mental, emotional and spiritual programming. Its more than the corporate agenda; its from the government, the church and big business. Its the persistence that we all should get married, have children, join the church and buy stuff. You can feel it at work, at church or at the grocery store.

These groups create our collective beliefs about food, fashion and most aspects of our lives. It is the constant drum that calls us to produce, process, sell and buy. Its the voice in our heads that tells us not to rock the boat, not to take risks. Its the treadmill many of us feel we are running on, which we can never move forward on. This state of being is whats familiar and even comfortable to most of us, yet the beliefs and practices it demands steal our happiness, our authenticity and our future. Our conditioning dictates to us its rules about food, our health, our relationships, our spirituality and how we should live.

You need to think about what this conditioning looks like. Its slender women who are young forever, virile men who are wealthy and powerful. Its an endless parade of things to buy, to play with, to wear and to consume. Our present society pushes fast food, mass-produced junk, caffeine, sugar, white flour, meat, alcohol and medications to temporarily anesthetize us from feeling our feelings. The world has us running on stress, in survival mode, and always tells us we are not enough and we need more. We are constantly told we never look good enough. It are reminded daily that we are really alone in the world. We are told not to trust others. And we are hypnotized into forgetting our true essence and greatness.

We may show independence by making cynical, sophisticated remarks about aspects of the culture that surrounds us, about TV commercials or certain products, but in the end it is nearly impossible not to succumb to the overwhelming forces that bombard us every day with these messages. Millions of dollars are spent every day to persuade us to do things and to buy things that we would never otherwise buy.

Have you ever noticed how clothing companies brand us? They convince us to abandon our individuality and force us to cover ourselves with logo-emblazoned sneakers, pants, shirts, purses and jackets. We the parade around in front of each other, trying to gauge who has been branded best. We equate these brands with lifestyles. They represent youthfulness, luxury or fun. These brands even fill needs, like the need to belong or to feel respected.

This is not a rant to replace the free market economy or the democratic system with some revolutionary utopian ideal. Isnt it ironic how we viewed the Soviet and Chinese communism as a threat to our lives? We were told that brainwashing techniques and other forms of social programming were used to control the behaviour of millions of people. Yet we rarely pause to think about what is happening now in our society. We live in a form of corporate social-ism. It is an extremely powerful set of attitudes, beliefs and thoughts that are relentlessly imposed on us, every day, through the media channels. And these business-oriented motives that drive it are escalating and causing damage to the mental and physical health of millions of people and the planet.

We have come to recognize that corporations have developed their own self-interested economic laws and dynamics because their survival depends on it. A fundamental economic law is that the corporation must always do what is best for the corporation, which is to maximize profits, outperform competitors, expand, grow and keep shareholders happy with high-performance stocks and regular dividend payouts. The health and welfare of the consumer is of no concern to these corporations.

So, how do we escape this culture of needing to look, dress and eat a certain way? We must find the courage to step away from outside influences, to look inside and ask ourselves, Who am I, and what do I really want from my life? This addresses one of the most fundamental concepts embedded in the American psyche: freedom! Most of us like to think we are the freest people in the world, and in a way, we are.

Lets be realistic. There are two types of freedom: freedom from and freedom for. The freedom from we have pretty much aced. Through our democratic institutions we have achieved a great deal of freedom from religious persecution, from undemocratic political systems like communism, fascism and military dictatorships. But what is freedom for? Freedom for what? To work our tails off all day and then sit in front of a TV, computer or PlayStation until its time for bed? To stuff our mounts with processed food until our pants burst or our bodies deteriorate? To chase after the lasts products that will make us feel complete? Isnt there something more to life?

All you need to do to improve your current lifestyle is look at your present situation. Are you doing all the things that you were told would make you happy and healthy? Would you like more out of life than the same as everyone else? Discover what others have done to improve their lifestyles. Do what you want to do and follow the path of real life freedom.
