Canada - Is It Really A Country Where The Grass Is Greener?

Take a question like this at face value and the answer will generally be yes

, if comparing to the UK. Simply put, as Canada has a much lower population density than the UK (Canada is two hundred and twenty eighth in the world, whereas the UK is fifty first) and is a bigger country overall (Canada covers 3,855,100 square miles, whilst the UK only covers 128,066 square miles), there's likely to be more green grass.

Get past this basic reply and depending on how you look at the country depends on how you determine whether Canada is a better place to live in than the UK. It must be noted, however, that whichever way you look at it, the prospect of living in Canada looks extremely appealing.

Having already discussed the population density and amount of open land - which itself is a major coup for those applying for Canada immigration who are used to living in the UK, particularly in the major cities - one of the major positive points of the country is that it is essentially the United Kingdom with the bad points removed.

For example, all Canadians have access to free public healthcare, just like the UK's NHS. Education is also completely free and compulsory up to the age of 16, although in some provinces - New Brunswick and Ontario - the age rises to 18. Unlike the UK (or more specifically England), however, Canada's educational achievement levels are far superior, with 76.1 percent of the population receiving a secondary diploma and 53.4 percent receiving a post-secondary diploma, compared to England's 50.6 percent and 30.9 percent respectively.

And in terms of climate, keep to the right of the country and you'll be able benefit from weather that is very similar to that of the UK, with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees centigrade in the summer and falling just below 0 in the winter. This is not to say the rest of the country isn't inhabitable (in fact, some of the bigger and more popular cities are to the west), it's just that the further from the east coast you get, the colder it gets in the winter, occasionally falling to minus 30, 40 or even 50 degrees centigrade in some areas.

Although the country does have many, many positive points, it isn't completely perfect, however. For instance, the unemployment rate in the UK is hovering just under the 8 percent mark at the minute, which is considered to be extremely high. Unfortunately, it's almost exactly the same in Canada.

What must be taken into consideration here though is that the unemployment figures are likely to include the several tens of thousands of Intuits who inhabit the country. Whilst some Intuits now work in modern industries, they are generally a very self-sufficient population, so not everyone has to work in the modern sense, therefore instantly increasing the unemployment figure.

Everyone has their own ideas and preconceptions about Canada, but it isn't until you actually visit when you can make up your mind as to whether the grass is greener than in the UK. It might be for some, but for others it isn't the place for them and only you can decide whether Canada immigration is the right option for you.
