Breast Lift Surgery The Procedure At A Glance

Patients who are considering breast lift surgery may be wondering if they are good candidates for the procedure

. They also may be seeking information on the steps that are performed during the breast lift and advice on the recovery period. Important information about preparing for surgery, undergoing the procedure, and going through the recovery period is provided below its the breast lift at a glance.

Breast Lift Surgery Candidates

Is breast lift surgery right for you? Who are the best candidates for the procedure? The breast lift is designed for women whose breasts have begun to droop or sag. As part of the normal aging process, the skin begins to lose its elasticity and gravity starts to take its toll. Also, breast lift surgery may be appropriate for younger women who have given birth or who lost a significant amount of weight. Pregnancy and massive weight changes can cause the breasts to lose their shape.

The Breast Lift Procedure

Once anesthesia has been administered, the plastic surgeon will make an incision on the breast in a predetermined location. There are four different breast lift techniques that are available. The difference between the techniques has to do with the shape of the incision. The type of incision that is made depends upon how much excess skin the patient has and how much breast tissue needs to be lifted.

The nipple and areola will be repositioned to a higher location on the breast and the excess skin will be removed. The remaining skin will then be brought down and around the swell of the breast to complete the procedure.

Breast Lift Recovery

Breast lift patients should plan on resting approximately one to two weeks before they return to work or resume their normal activities. Patients may need to avoid strenuous activities and exercise for about a month after surgery.
