Plastic surgery has changed the way we live. You can change your nose, eye shape, even your breasts. Some explore plastic surgery to repair what was lost to them. For instance, a client may be getting reconstructive surgery after losing a breast to cancer. Others still are perhaps not happy with their breast size, or shape. For those women breast augmentation surgery might be the right choice. There are more choices to make on this journey. Let us consider the type of implants offered.

Silicone is a controversial choice. In 1992 the FDA shut down the use of silicone. Silicone is back, however, with only two manufacturers. Silicone inserts are still considered because they are said to feel more like real breasts. Saline is sterile salt water. They do have silicone shells. The benefit to saline is, if it ruptures your body can reabsorb the sterile solution. Silicone, however, can be dangerous if it leaks. In fact, as a precaution woman with silicone implants need to get an MRI scan three years after the surgery. It is suggested that they continue to get them every two years. If a rupture occurs the insert will need to be removed or replaced at the patient's discretion. Other problems can occur from surgery.

Some common side- effects to surgery are a lack of feeling in the nipples or breasts, breast pain, infection, scarring, problems with scar tissue, bleeding, a problem with size and shape. For example, one breast could be larger than the other. Implants could make nursing future children difficult. In fact, a woman still considering adding to her family should wait on implants. Weight gain or loss causes change in the breasts as well. Pregnancy is sure to cause a little of both.

After the surgery you may have drainage tubes. These will need to come out in a few days. It is also suggested that you wear a surgical bra. Some other things to avoid, are heavy lifting, and this does include your toddler. No excessive activity. That should include not resuming your regular workout routine.

In the end a client who is a good candidate for breast augmentation, has healthy expectations, and should be quite happy with the results. The results may take some time to be fully enjoyed, you will notice a change right away. Once swelling goes down you will get to see the results fully. Scarring will begin to fade from any incisions. New lacy bras will be in your future. Not to mention that old workout routine. But you will look and feel great doing it.
