What?
Binary Bar
5 Arundel Street
Manchester,
Greater Manchester
M15 4JZ
Where?
Binary bar is located in Castlefield, an area swamped with major players in the bar and restaurant field, but it is the little Manchester bars and restaurants on the fringes, like Binary Bar, that often get overlooked.
Close to the Museum of Science and Industry and a short walk to the Manchester retail scene, the location is ideal for those seeking a weekend away to visit Manchester's attractions.
Starting off
We headed to Binary Bar to try out their food offering. It's a neighbourhood bar with a steady stream of locals, great offers and friendly staff waiting to greet you.
Binary bar is a bar-cum-restaurant that doesn't really specialise in anything other than serving its punters a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. They even offer pizzas to take away, you just call them and pick them up and at two for a tenner, the residents of Castlefield are quids in.
We went at lunch time and the place was quiet aside from a few locals dropping in. Not wanting to over-indulge in the middle of the day, myself and my guest just shared Nachos (2.95) topped with melted cheese and served with sour cream, guacamole and salsa.
A big portion and enough to share? It was a nice enough starter.
Moving onto Mains
Binary Bar is never going to win any gourmet food prizes but that's not what it's about. The menu is full of hearty favourites like Fish and Chips (6.95) and Sausage and Mash (6.45). We went for traditional Gammon, Egg and Chips (6.45) served with salad. Huge portions for a good price and perfectly reasonable taste-wise.
The pizzas are a real speciality at Binary Bar. I went for the Giardinera (6.00) topped with peppers, red onion, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. It was really delicious with a fluffy fresh base and lots of gooey cheese on top.
Room for more?
No way at lunch time, but I'm sure if we were there at night watching the football on their huge screen then there would be room to squeeze in Sticky Toffee Pudding (2.75) or Strawberry Dream Delight (2.75).
The food could be better at Binary Bar if they wanted it to be but what they provide is decent pub grub at good prices, mixed with a laid-back vibe, a humongous screen for watching movies or sport on and in- all a great place to relax with mates.
Large review: 6.5 out of 10
