Active St Lucia: Activities For Adventurous Travellers
Share: It may be a lush tropical island edged with stunning sandy beaches and clear blue seas
, but that doesn't mean that St Lucia is a destination suited only to those visitors that like to relax on holiday... nothing could be further from the truth!
In St Lucia, there are many ways for adventurous visitors and adrenaline junkies to get their kicks. Here are a few of the most exciting things to do if you want to experience an active holiday on this beautiful Caribbean island.
Jungle biking
Experience the jungles of St Lucia on two wheels with Bike St Lucia. Based at the Anse Mamin Plantation - part of the 600-acre estate owned by the Anse Chastanet Resort - Bike St Lucia offers fantastic jungle biking adventures set in the spectacular surroundings of an 18th century plantation.
Share: Featuring eight miles of bike tracks, Bike St Lucia is suitable for cyclists of any ability - even if this is the first time you've ever tried this type of activity. If you're an absolute beginner - or want to brush up on your off-road biking skills - you'll appreciate the skill course training area.
If you're an intermediate, advanced or expert cyclist, there are trails for you, too! The intermediate level single-track trails are reminiscent of roller coasters, while the challenging Tinker's trail features steep uphills and tight switchbacks that will give your legs and lungs a good workout!
Horse riding
Horseback riding in St Lucia is a wonderful activity... just imagine all those stunning views, the thud of hooves on soft sand, the sun on your back and the wind in your hair.
At Cas en Bas, Gros Islet, is The International Pony Club. Experienced riding guides will take you trail riding through stunning scenery, offering a number of packages including beach riding, combined ride and swim sessions, and beach ride/swim sessions culminating in a beach barbecue. Riders of all abilities are welcome; if you're very experienced you'll be able to canter off separately.
Helicopter tours
We've already established that St Lucia is a beautiful island, with almost every inch covered in spectacular scenery. If you've seen the island at ground level, no doubt you've already made up your mind that it's stunning.
Now hold that thought, and hover above it by a couple of thousand feet or so. What does that scenery look like now?
With St Lucia Helicopters you'll enjoy a unique experience that you'll remember forever. Aerial tours are available from as little as US$85 per person, and you can choose between tours of the north of the island, the south, or both.
Airport transfers are also available - so if you're flying into the international airport and want to travel to Marigot Bay or other northern resorts faster than you would by road, consider a helicopter transfer which will drop you off at Castries in just ten minutes at a cost of US$145 per person, one way.
ATV tours
If St Lucia's hot, tropical climate makes you feel too lazy to do much exploration on foot, consider experiencing the island's beauty on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).
Based at Fond Estate, Micoud, ATV St Lucia offer exhilarating ATV rides through lush tropical scenery with the opportunity to see the estate's employees working in the fields and learn about the fascinating flora and fauna indigenous to the area. Each 2.5 to 3-hour tour will take you through different plantations, the rainforest and the Fond River.
Ziplining
Share: At Treetop Adventure Park you'll experience the rainforest in the most unique way imaginable... by ziplining through the canopy!
Recently named the best zipline in the Caribbean by ShoreTrips, Treetop Adventure Park is one of St Lucia's top attractions and offers a great day out for all the family.
There are twelve lines at Treetop Adventure Park, including the highest and longest on the island. At US$65 for a four-hour adventure, this is an inexpensive and adrenaline-fuelled adventure that won't break the bank and will live on in your memory forever!
