A Grand Tour Of China

For people wanting to witness China's beauty first hand a grand tour of the country is a good idea. A grand tour of China allows people to view a wide range of the beautiful sights that the country has to offer.

Beijing is a good place to start a tour of China. The capital city has plenty to offer a holidaymaker including seeing Tiananmen Square and Chairman Mao's Mausoleum. You could then move on to see the Forbidden City which has the largest amount of well preserved ancient buildings in the whole of China.

The Great Wall of China could be your next destination. The Great Wall is on pretty much every visitors list of things they want to see when they visit China and once you see it you will understand why. The scale of the magnificent wall is incomprehensible as you see it stretch beyond your view knowing that is spans over 3000 miles. Before leaving Beijing visit the Temple of Heaven. The temple was host to the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Ceremonies were held there every year and included sacrificial offerings and prayers for good harvests.

From Beijing you could travel to Xian to see the Shaanxi Museum. The museum holds thousands of priceless relics to see. You could also visit the colourful and lively Muslim quarter to see the bustling food markets and the Great Mosque. The next place to visit in Xian is one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th Century. The Terracotta Army was discovered in 1974 by local farmers. The amazing collection of life sized terracotta warriors dates back to 200BC. They were made to help the First Emperor Shi Huangdi who united the nation rule another empire in the afterlife.

Another way to see the delights of China is to take a river cruise. You could cruise on the Yangtze River to see the Three Gorges Dam and some of the most beautiful scenery you could imagine. There is also the Li River to experience. There is no finer way to relax than cruising along the river while witnessing some of the most picturesque views in the world including the limestone hills and traditional Chinese villages along with peaceful fishing scenes. Cruises on the Li River head downstream to Yangshuo. The town is set against a backdrop of lush green rice paddies. In the town you can experience the atmosphere of the local markets and the traditional cobbled streets.

No grand tour of China would be complete without visiting Shanghai. Sights to see in Shanghai include the museum, the Old Town and the lovely Yu Gardens. Shanghai is also knows as the "Paris of the East".

China has so much to offer for a visitor to see that you I just could not include everything as I write. The best way to comprehend the beauty is to experience the culturally and traditionally rich nation yourself. A grand tour of China would be a trip of a lifetime.
