2010 WSOP Update: Americans 32 Bracelets - June 30th
The United States may have been bounced from the World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa but closer to home it continues to totally dominate the World Series of Poker* in Vegas. The latest 2010 WSOP* standings show the Americans with 32 bracelets, 4,343 cashes and total earnings of $66,278,746. Canada was second with 4 bracelets, 370 cashes and $6,766,133 in earnings. The United Kingdom poker players have done better than the England soccer team in the World Cup as they have 5 bracelets, 183 cashes and total earnings of $5,760,644 while Beckham and the boys head home. Russia was fourth best with 1 bracelet, 89 cashes and $3,082,805 in earnings with Germany at fifth place with 0 bracelets, 85 cashes, and $1,667,781 in earnings.
Norway can also boast of some 2010 World Series of Poker success as Sigurd Eskeland won a bracelet in the Mixed Games Championship. It was Eskeland's first ever WSOP bracelet and came with a nice check of $260,497. Eskeland was a teacher who has since turned pro. Meanwhile Jesse Rockowitz won Event 45 in a $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em championship. Rockowitz is a poker player from Northern California and incredibly enough, the 24-year old initially didn't like playing hold'em when he began in 2006 but now plays continuously. He was paid a whopping $721,373 for winning, which will definitely make him love the game much more. Full tilt poker is running WSOP qualifiers for as little as $1 to win your seat to the main event in Vegas.
North Carolina's Chris Bell won $327,040 in the Pot-Limit Omaha High-Low split championship. It was his first WSOP gold bracelet. Bell has made quite a living at poker with around $2.5 million in career earnings. Canada's Gavin Smith picked up $268,238 for winning the $2500 buy-in Mixed Hold'em championship. Smith has long been known as the clown prince comedian of poker and is one of the most popular players at any table. He has had television gigs and over $4 million in earnings. It was his first WSOP win after many excruciating hear breakers in the past.
