This year's 2010 Fort Lauderdale International boat show was expected to be the best one up to date. The show began on October twenty eighth and lasted through November first. Anyone near the Port Everglades may have noticed all of the boats being brought in through the port. The massive yacht transport of these vessels occured weeks in advance. If you were driving down Seventeenth Street in Fort Lauderdale a week prior to the show you may have noticed cargo ships loading the yachts from water to land. For the International Boat show, merchandise, cargo, and all different types of boats were brought in by an even larger vessel called a carrier. It is a flat bed ship used by boat shipping companies with the ability to carry up to 15 yachts or boats. Many yacht owners and builders prefer to ship their boats, as opposed to sailing them on their own bottom, in order to avoid fuel and crew costs as well as wear and tear and the high-risk situations that often occur on the rough ocean waters.
The show finally began on a glorious morning in the middle of the Fort Lauderdale boardwalk at a hotel called the Bahia Mar. If you were looking for a meal throughout the event, it wasn't hard to find. Along the docks a few snack stands were set up selling all types of food ranging from freshly made potato chips to ice cold lemonade.
The event was filled with a mlange of people from all walks of life, enjoying the boats, snacks, music, and the wonderful energy of the yachting industry.
The day ended on a sweet note as the sun set on one of the greatest events this year for yacht owners.
