It's a three day celebration to commemorate the natural phenomenon of the reversal of the flow of water between the Mekong River and Tonle Sap. The reason for this is that the usual water flow from the Tonle Sap to the Mekong is reversed during the rainy season when the Mekong rises and overflows into the river – which grows at least ten-fold.
