Spain Travel – Asturias: Exploring the Picos de Europa My day began with a nice breakfast overlooking the town of Cangas de Onís, a pretty town of about 6700 people that is embedded in the Picos de Europa region in the northern Spanish province of Asturias. I was staying at the Hotel La Cepada whose elevated location on a hillside provides amazing views over the town below. The weather had cleared up since yesterday and fortunately the...more
Spain Travel – Asturias: The Tito Bustillo Prehistoric Cave and a Scenic Walk in Ribadesella Well, my time in the high mountains of the Asturian Picos de Europa was over. After two days with rather poor weather, the skies were clearing up nicely and a...more
Spain Travel – Asturias: Exploring Llanes, a Country Drive in the Mountains On this gorgeous sunny day I had already fallen in love with one Asturian coastal town: the scenic town of Ribadesella had truly captured my heart and made it into my personal travel memory bank as one of the most scenic ocean-mountain towns I had ever seen. Now in the mid-afternoon I had to continue eastwards towards Llanes, another picturesque coastal town on the Cantabrian Sea. I was going to stay overnight near Llanes in a small country hotel called "la Posada de Babel" in the village of La Pereda. Most of my drive to Llanes took me very close to the Atlantic coastline and I had to stop several times to gaze out over the sandy beaches on the ocean. After 3 pm I arrived in Llanes, a small ocean-front town of about 14,000 people that stretches out along the Green Coast of Spain. The Picos de Europa mountains almost reach down to the sea here and the town is framed by the coastal range called Sierra del Cuera. Today Llanes is a fishing port with a long history: the remains of the town's walls date back to 1206. Of course, tourism has also become an important contributor to the local economy. I...more

The Effective Means of Detecting Metals on the Beach Even if you happen to possess the latest and technologically advance metal detectors in your collection of gadgets, you still need to know about the best means to detect metals on the beach. Beach metal detecting may be like any other hobby but it is indeed a rather serious one.If you don't use the most efficient methods as you do it, you are more likely to end up having an unproductive search. If this happens almost always, you may just resort to selling or permanently storing your detectors and forget about the hobby all at once. You must however realize that your first few attempts may be futile. One of the most fundamental aspects that you must consider is the kind of beaches that you do your search. Naturally, it may be impossible for you to find lost jewels if you use metal detectors in beach areas that are not visited often by people. Of course, this is unless you found a credible map of a treasure chest buried in the sand by pirates long ago. However, if the only source for these gems are jewelries and other valuables that may have been accidentally dropped by their rightful owners, then the public beaches are the...more
