Surgery is suggested for the treatment of esophageal cancer. There are two types of surgery available such as esophagectomy and Esophagogastrecotomy. The second type of surgery is recommended if the cancer is at the lower end of the esophagus or it has spread upto the stomach. Generally for this type of surgery, a part of the esophagus with cancer (probably the lower part of the esophagus) or the upper part present next to the esophagus or the lymph nodes near the esophagus is removed.
