One study is called, "Radiotherapy in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma of the pleura, with special reference to its use in palliation" by S R Davis Fracr, L Tan Bsc, D L Ball Fracr - Australasian Radiology Volume 38, Issue 3, pages 212–214, August 1994. Here is an excerpt: "SUMMARY - Most patients presenting with malignant mesothelioma of the pleura (MMP) are only suitable for palliative treatment. Radiotherapy has not been shown to improve survival in patients with this disease, but is of use in the palliation of symptoms. In this retrospective review of 111 patients with MMP referred to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, the palliative effect of radiotherapy was analysed. More than half of the patients whose response could be assessed had some symptomatic relief from the radiotherapy treatment. No dose–response relationship could be found."Mesothelioma Radiation Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy By: Montwrobleski77 About the Author Monty Wrobleski is the author of this article. When STAV serum-free conditioned medium was separated by using fast protein liquid chromatography Superose 6 gel filtration, two motility-inducing protein peaks were detected. The first peak contained proteins with molecular weight > 220,000 that had both chemotactic and haptotactic properties, while the second peak contained material with apparent...more
Another interesting study is called, "Anti-MOC-31: a potential addition to the pulmonary adenocarcinoma versus mesothelioma immunohistochemistry panel." By Sosolik RC, McGaughy VR, De Young BR. - Department of Pathology, Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus 43210 - Mod Pathol. 1997 Jul;10(7):716-9. Here is an excerpt: "Abstract - MOC-31 expression has recently been advocated as an immunohistochemical marker for distinguishing mesothelioma from adenocarcinoma in tissue sections. We studied formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue from 23 pleural mesotheliomas and 23 primary pulmonary adenocarcinomas for immunoreactivity with anti-MOC-31, a human epithelial-related antigen. All of the 23 adenocarcinomas strongly expressed the marker, whereas only one of the mesotheliomas showed weak reactivity. These results demonstrate the usefulness of anti-MOC-31 in differentiating pulmonary adenocarcinoma from mesothelioma."DNA and the Human Mesothelioma Cell Line By: Montwrobleski77 About the Author Monty Wrobleski is the author of this article.
