It's only human nature to want to get going on a project we have a passion for, but sometimes rushing through the planning phase causes us to overlook or minimize something that can jump up and bite us later.Preparation is one of the most important parts of any undertaking. When you take your car in for a new paint job, they don't just ask you what color and then start spraying it on. There is a considerable amount of scraping, sanding and cleaning to do before the paint goes on. Without this preparation the new paint job would not be very satisfactory. Just about everything we do requires some preparation before we start. A trainer may spend many hours over a period of time getting a horse ready for a race...that will last two minutes. Your home business is going to be your baby, and you want it to grow up to be strong and healthy. Don't skimp on planning.Proper planning and preparation are the keys to getting your home business going in the right direction. You need not be a nit picking perfectionist on the issue, most of it is common sense, but just remain aware of how things are progressing. A lax attitude towards the preparation part might mean you overlook something important. In the DIY (do it yourself) community there is an unwritten rule that says 'measure twice, cut once'. This rule was enacted ages ago to counter a built-in curse that causes a man to measure something once, and then cut it two inches shorter than he intended.Besides getting in a hurry there is another reason we sometimes skimp on preparation: we find some of the preliminary stuff to be a bit boring, so we tend to want to skim through it or skip over it. Starting up your own home business is an exciting venture, one that you have this passion for that says 'let's get on with it'. Let's get started putting this business together. This is fine, but watch out it doesn't cause you to minimize the importance of the planning phase. Use your judgement when assigning priorities to the importance of things. Although the dimensions of our dream boat are quite critical...so is the size of the basement door.You're going to spend a lot of quality time with your new 'work at home' business. You probably won't have any trouble at all getting your ducks lined up in a row. You most likely will enjoy the planning and preparation part of it every bit as much as building the business itself.
