It was only a few years ago that the American dream of owning your own business had most people 'shut out' because of the level of investment involved. Whether it was just a small "Mom and Pop" restaurant, or a local hardware store, or a big-chain franchise, they all required such major commitments of both money and time that most people simply could not swing it. That has all changed dramatically. The advancement and development of the global Internet has taken those barriers and shattered them. Some online businesses today can be started for a few hundred dollars. There are other top-tier programs that can be launched at a fraction of the cost of traditional start-ups and be generating five-figure monthly profits in less than 90 days. That was unheard of with old-school business models. The possibilities are literally mind boggling. Whatever your income goals might be- to get rich, or just make a few extra bucks, with some time and effort those goals can be realized. It is important to bear in mind, that with whatever endeavor you select, if it is to be of substance and long-lasting, you must commit yourself to the time cost of learning new skills, as well as investing some money in yourself and your business. The big question for most is, "What do I do?" So where do you start looking for your answer? And what is the best manner in which to educate yourself and position your business properly for maximizing exposure and ultimate success? What are the different options in your budget range that may be do-able, profitable, and in what time interval? All of these are valid and often difficult questions. There are a number of areas where money can be made. Be aware that your choice should be dependent upon what your needs are, how quickly they must occur, and how much capital, both personal time and money, you are willing to allocate. We have all heard about the numerous auction sites most notably eBay, and for several years I operated an eBay store that was indeed profitable. There are many sites that will supply product lines to sell and will drop ship for you. This can initially seem appealing given the 'hands-off' nature but it is unlikely that you will see sufficient volume to move the comma in your bank account. With the increased competition, and the rapid expansion globally, eBay has become a much more difficult proposition. Not that it can't be done, but if a serious six figure income is your goal then eBay, or auctions, are not the place to start. If your goal is merely a hobby and a couple hundred a month, eBay may be the answer. The affiliate marketing and advertising models have provided an avenue for many. This is where you can earn a commission for advertising, promoting, or simply providing a link for others' products, typically informational items. Again, with those that are firmly established and have gained "Internet Real Estate", the road for a new entry can be a tough one. The time and money necessary for a new person to get in and make decent money can be prohibitive. Again, if a substantial income is your goal, this is most likely not your answer. There are recently more and more avenues for generating income on the internet, such as the blogging craze and attempting to monetize them via promotionals or advertising dollars. However, the sunk cost in time and scope probably renders them nothing more than hobbies and pocket change. Making a serious income would require you to establish yourself as an authority in a particular arena or niche- again potentially costly in time and resources. The real answer, if what you seek is a quality, legitimate, and automated business that can generate high profits and expand globally, is a top-tier direct sales model. They continue to create life-changing revenues for people, have less competition overall, and provide secure growth-driven income streams.
