X-mas Hampers
My sister and I joined a contest that tasked us to come up with a unique home/house ware product married with a Christmas theme
. Ours really was a genuinely ridiculous business idea - Christmas Hampers. This said, however, we were enthralled and immediately hopeful about the possibility that people would actually purchase this type of home product!The first step was to introduce the X-mas hampers concept to someone I knew at an agency who produced logos, could printed them and procure the actual hampers. We set up an appointment with the art department and requested six design types with a timeline completion of a week.
The first of the designs was classic: a screen print of a snow-filled yard with a cottage and dimly lit windows on a black hamper; it reminded us of a Thomas Kincade painting. The next 5 Christmas hampers were fun, funky, modern and more of what we had pictured in our minds. X-mas hampers 2 & 3 were printed words on red hampers: JOY, FAITH, Ho-Ho-Ho, Merry Christmas scattered about. X-mas hampers 4 & 5 were screen prints of classic fictional Christmas characters such as Santa Claus and Rudolph, printed on white hampers with lyrics of the songs associated with the character(s). We were pleased with all of the art presented and wanted to begin the next stage of our project.
Immediately, we made a visit to the print shop to approve all colors and prints associated with the approved art design for the Christmas hampers. We had two of each hamper produced, one for the contest submission and one for our own collection. Once they were ready, we submitted our items and took to the internet market to begin advertising our curiously holiday appropriate hampers.
As it turns out, we did not win the contest. However, we do celebrate mild success the online marketing of our Christmas themed hampers and have added to the oddity with toilet covers, shower curtains and large oven magnets!
