Unlike textbooks and other study materials, a mentor can relate to what you are going through because he or she has been "in those trenches before you". So they are able to give you advice or share the "Pit-falls" and "Speed Bumps" they dealt with.
A good mentor has the ability to motivate you into thinking and deciding for yourself they will not decide for you. And the good thing is that every mentor has that magical knack to make you feel confident about your decision. Mentors are also a great source of encouragement they always prod you to move forward, especially when things seem not to be going too well.
Where To Find A Mentor
The truth is, you really don't go out looking for one. It usually just happens over time, just like pieces of a puzzle fitting together. Finding a mentor is like building a relationship. You don't have mentorship in mind, but you simply start to connect with all sorts of people. Among those you meet, there will be one or two who you will feel a connection to at a certain point. Most often, there is that feeling that you've found that person who fills the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
You will go through life having different mentors, depending on the purpose you're seeking at a particular moment in your life.
In my case, I've found mentors in successful business owners when I was in traditional sales that's eye-ball to eye-ball and toe-to-toe. I've also sought and found mentors half my age (or even more) in my online business because I knew the internet was their world. It's pretty cool learning from these young guys! I believe this new forged relationship has benefited them as they are tapping into my many years in business techniques. Their new approaches and strategies for this golden age entrepreneur are priceless. They have that great ability to make me feel a whole lot younger and more effective in business too.
