What You Can Get for Under $100,000 – Mexico Retirement Properties

More and more, American and Canadian retirees are looking for good deals on properties

for retirement especially in a warm and convenient place to live, if possible. While Mexico real estate definitely offers high-end luxury (albeit still at a much better price than back home), it also offers some very good and affordable properties for retirement. Here are three sample properties of what you can get for well under $100,000 USD.

A Colonial Fixer-Upper in the Historic Center of Merida

Merida is a wonderful, clean and safe colonial city, located on the north end of the Yucatan Peninsula, about 3 hours from Cancun. The city is full of beautiful architecture, culture and friendly people. The home in question is a short walk from a nice park on a street in the historic center where a considerable number of buyers have been renovating colonial homes; right now there are only 7 of these project homes left on the street; while it will take some work to restore it, it will be well worth it. The house is a short walk from the main city square!

A Lot in a New Gated Community in Playa del Carmen

This development is about 10 minutes away from the beach, and includes 24 hour security, a jogging track, pools, yard and garden areas, and a playground for the grandkids' visits. All utilities are underground, for more visual appeal. The lots start at about 3500 square feet (325 square meters). The community is close to a new mall, a Sam's, a state-of-the-art hospital and several restaurants. The downtown tourist area is a short taxi ride away, and the beach is just past that. Playa del Carmen is a resort town just south of Cancun, and is currently one of the fastest growing communities in Latin America.

2 Bedroom Home in La Paz

La Paz is located in Baja California, on the Sea of Cortez, which separates Baja from the rest of Mexico. With wonderful surrounding deserts and mountains, La Paz is relaxing, beautiful and convenient. This 2 bedroom home is about 1000 square feet, and is on a 1700 sq. ft. lot. It is in a quiet neighborhood close to a mall, supermarket, movie theater, sports facilities and restaurants. Of course, the beach is only a short drive away.

What's your retirement property budget? Take a look at Mexico real estate listings for that range you'll be pleasantly surprised by the options.
