What Is a Financial Director?

What Is a Financial Director?

Responsible for all the financial management aspects of a business, the Financial Director (FD) is a crucial role when it comes to the fiscal side of things. For emerging businesses, fast growing companies and established organisations, an FD is of paramount importance.

As your company grows, your finances will follow suit. In this scenario, if you don't have one already, you need to consider an FD to look after these accounts and much more.

The overall job description is to direct and manage all of the financial aspects, and to prepare financial reports and financial forecasts. The duties of an FD can vary between companies, but generally they can involve any of the following:

Being an FD is a competitive and highly sort after position. It requires someone with a rounded ability to manage, support and direct. Therefore having experience at this level is incredibly beneficial. To develop a career to an FD position, an employee would probably start at as a Chartered Accountant, and then build their experience and skills to this level. By taking on extra work, and developing leadership and managerial skills and sustaining this for a number of years, an employee may find they have the required skills and experience to aim for an FD position.
