What Is The Declared Value On A Shipping Document?

What Is The Declared Value On A Shipping Document?

Courier companies always require some documents to be filled out before they will make a delivery

. Many of these documents are easy to fill out and consist of simple information such as where you want your packages picked up from, and where you want them delivered to. Some of those can even be filled out online now. There are also forms which your Houston courier service will need you to fill out which are in regard to the insurance which covers your shipment. These do need to be filled out accurately and may to some degree be slightly more complicated than the other documents you need to fill out. One of the things that you need to know to fill out these forms is what declared value is.

The declared value is essentially what you are saying that your packages are worth before you ship them. It is important that the courier company have this information before they accept your package as this determines how much coverage you will have in the event that your packages become damaged in transit somehow and you need to make a claim on your goods.

One thing that you need to be aware of is what the maximum declared value is when filling out those types of forms. This is because the insurance coverage that is paid for by the courier company is only going to cover up to a certain value of goods. If your package is worth more than what the maximum declared value is, then you may need to look into options for additional insurance for your goods.

Making sure that you mark down an accurate declared value for your goods is a very important part of the shipping process. If your package was ever to sustain damage while the courier was in possession of it, any insurance claim that you make is going to be based solely on the amount of value that you listed in the declared value section. If you estimated the value of your shipment lower than it should be, you will not be able to make a claim to the actual value, so be sure that you actually accurately describe the contents of anything that you're shipping.

Declared value is an easy concept to understand, but not one to be overlooked. Know both your actual declared value, and the maximum declared value to make sure you're making the most of your insurance.
