Moving home is always going to be stressful, but often a bad experience with a removals van makes it so much worse
. That's why, before paying someone to help you move, you should read some removals reviews to see what other people have experienced.
One person who wrote a removals review said that he used a well known removals company to help move items to Spain. They told him caring for the customer was a priority, but they damaged the furniture and he was disgusted with the way they were treated. After complaining, the company admitted incorrectly stacking items in storage and said it was done in such a manner to make a profit. When he saw the items, a valuable chest was stood on its side and had broken.
Another example of issues can be found on a removals reviews forum. In what is labelled a very unpleasant experience, one person explains how the removals company was three hours late. When he rang to complain, the owner was rude and hung up on him. They didn't turn up, which meant the family was forced to hire a van and move everything themselves. What made it worse is that the couple had a one-year-old son. After asking for the deposit back, the owner was rude and unhelpful once more, and the couple resorted to legal action to recover the deposit they paid in advance.
As a final example of what can go wrong, one person warned that when moving into their first home, it took movers an hour to make the 30 minute drive from the flat to the new house. The movers smoked next to the brand new carpet, knocked a massive chunk of wood out of the main entrance door in the garage and the top of the stairwell banister and a 10" gouge in the wooden kitchen door, amongst many other damages to the property. Furthermore, the movers crushed the dryer vent, lost a foot to the dryer and bent a mattress out of place. When they tried to complain, because they'd taken out insurance they were forced to pay the excess before any of the problems were fixed.
