Understanding And Playing Texas Hold Em Blinds

In Texas Hold Em, the Blinds are the two positions found immediately to the left of the Dealer button

. The Dealer button, as it suggests, indicates from which position at the table the cards are to be dealt. This does not mean, however, that the person sitting in that chair has to act as dealer. Often there is a dealer who is not even in the game himself, so the button indicates the rotation of that position. From this position, the player is forced to contribute, or ante up, to the beginning of the pot an amount equal to generally the minimum bet for the Big Blind and generally half that for the Small Blind. The Blinds have been set up to prevent people from play a hand of the game without putting any money on the table.

Sitting in the Blind gives you a different strategy from the other seats at the table. You can truly give away your beginner status if when it is your turn to act, youre not sure what to do. There is some power to sitting in the Blind, and some drawbacks, such as being the last to act. If you have to rely on the dealer to talk you through it, you need to learn the rules of the game better. One of the best places to do this is at www.learn-hold-em-poker.com. There you will find a multimedia ebook that teaches the basics and some hard-earned tips by a professional player who started out just like you; knowing nothing about the game and learning every lesson at a heavy cost. This is the best advice you can get.

Many people dont realize that you can raise even when the other players have not raised your Blind bet. For example, if you were in the Big Blind and other players in the game have called the Big Blind bet, you can still raise the bet. The player in the Small Blind can do the same thing. This can be an act of power and certainly intimidate the other players when you have decent cards and want to possibly steal back the Blind.

More accomplished players will look for your discomfort when youre sitting in the Blind and will jump on the opportunity to spook you into folding, thereby leaving your money on the table and in turn, in their stack. Understand the power of the Texas Hold Em Blind and how to use it to your advantage to win games and make a savvy reputation for yourself.

Some people think that sitting in the Blind is some sort of supportive function for the game and you should hold back from your betting; almost like you were a dealer who has no hand on the table. Dont fall into that pattern. Its mostly just to make sure there is some monetary commitment on the table to be won and to prevent people from bidding and influencing the game without having anything at stake.

What other advantages can you think of that come as a result of sitting in the Big or Small Blind? Will you know how to play that position to your own advantage?
