However, do not, I repeat, do not pitch your business to people you are interested in connecting. When they accept your friend request, spend time getting to know that new friend by asking them about what they do, how their business is going, etc. Over time, you will understand their needs in greater detail, and eventually get to the point where you can offer a solution that your business provides.

LinkedIn - You can use a similar approach like Facebook. Join a few groups that are specific to your industry and market. Connect with people in the group by sending them a private message first using the example above. Add them to your network once you have their permission. Then ask your new connections how they are doing and find out if there are any problems or difficulties they are encountering in their business. Until you have established a relationship with that contact and fully understand their needs, do not pitch your business. Also take a look at the group discussions and make comments on the article. If you like the article, feel free to connect with the author and establish a relationship from there.

There are also other ways to brand yourself for free online, but Facebook and LinkedIn are great places to start. Make connections with people, and find out what their needs truly are. People will be attracted to you, and you can eventually lead them to your business. But before you even start this, make sure to brainwash yourself with the notion of never pitching your business without getting to know your new contacts first.
