Admittedly results from SEO techniques are more tangible when it comes to e-commerce because you can see obvious increases or decreases in online conversions, which in turn affect revenue and profit margins. One. Create great content for your user or consumer and only then do your keyword research. Doing this the other way around just means youll be tempted to partake in a spot of keyword stuffing. Not only is keyword stuffing considered to be spam by the search engines and bit it also puts you at a high risk of getting penalised. More importantly you will more than likely end up with on page content thats no good to anyone. Once you know what to target, go back and optimise your content by including a few of the keywords as naturally as possible, remembering the importance of singular and plural versions of those words.

Spend some time researching your competition, industry and keywords; remember the old adage keep your friends close and your enemies closer when it comes to the competitive nature of online business and SEO. Once your initial research is in place set aside time each week, fortnight or month to review these but remember that ranking for a competitive keyword can take months so try to stick with the original keywords and add to them when necessary.
Three. Register your website with a free analytics programme, this will allow you to see the results of your keyword research and competitor analysis. Create monthly reports for site traffic, length of time spent on each page, rankings for each keyword, bounce rates and conversion rates (for e-commerce sites). After a couple of these reports it will start to become obvious how successful (or not) your SEO strategy is.
Four. Build trust with the major search engines but more importantly with your user or consumer and build links with domains that already have this trust. You can get consumers on side simply by offering them the opportunity to interact with your brand, by offering a review or feedback section that is regularly monitored. This in turn will boost the confidence in those who dont already know and trust your brand. Call and ask for links from relevant sites and offer them the same in return but dont do this erratically, really think about which sites would drive people to your website.
Five. Set up a Twitter account and keep the content fresh both on Twitter and on your sites news feed or blog section. Twitter is a great way to rank quickly for brand terms and while it has its drawbacks in terms of ease to monitor, the benefits of user interaction and ranking can outweigh this if its done cleverly.
