The Tea Brand Of Global Proportions by:Deirdre Gonzalez
When it comes to tea brands, Lipton has always been one of the most recognized brands of teas across the world
. This is because Lipton is the only brand which is introduced into the global market, making it available for many people to buy lipton tea from any part of the world. Marketed under Unilever, the multinational company that owns almost all consumer products from foods and beverages, to cleansing and beauty products, Lipton achieved global success compared to other brands of tea. So what is Lipton?
Brief history of Lipton
Before it was owned by Unilever, Lipton was already a popular brand of tea in Glasgow, Scotland, where it was founded by Sir Thomas Lipton at the end of the 19th century. Because of the success of Lipton, Sir Lipton soon established a chain of grocers, first across Glasgow, the rest of Scotland, until finally he had stores throughout Britain.
Before the brand came into the management of Unilever, Lipton were bought by several other companies. The first one to acquire Lipton, along with its groceries, is Home and Colonial Stores to form a food group with over 3,000 stores. Then it was acquired by Argyll Group in 1982 which rebranded the business into Presto. Meanwhile, the Lipton tea business was acquired by consumer goods company Unilever in a number of separate transactions, starting with the purchase of the US and Canadian Lipton business in 1938 and completed in 1972 when Unilever bought the remainder of the global Lipton business.
Lipton of Today
The reason why many people buy lipton tea as well as with its success in the global market is with its products. Apart from black leaf teas (with the long-standing Lipton Yellow Label brand), the company also markets a large range of other varieties, both in leaf tea as well as ready-to-drink format, such as the green teas, black flavoured teas, (herbal) infusions, Lipton Linea (a 'slimming tea') in Europe and Lipton Milk Tea in various Asian markets.
Lipton Iced Tea
The Lipton Iced Tea, or Lipton Ice Tea, is one of the most popular products of Lipton. The brand is sold by Lipton through two joint ventures with PepsiCo. The operations are 50-50 ventures, in which PepsiCo contributes its bottling facilities and distribution networks and Unilever the brand (Lipton) and recipe.
Yellow Brand
The original Lipton that made the brand very popular. The reason why many people buy lipton tea is because of the yellow brand's unique blends. Lipton Yellow Label is a blend, meaning that up to 30 teas from many different origins are blended together to create a consistent quality and taste.
