Texas, true to having everything in superlatives, is the largest producer of natural gas in the US. Statistics show that 25% of the natural gas used in the US comes from Texas alone. It is transferred into various areas through pipelines. Texas has a lot of low grade coal reserves but they still opt to get their coal from Montana and Wyoming via trains.
It is more practical to be supplied with natural gas rather than wait for the next train full of coal in order to have electricity in your home or business. Remember that the coal will still come from Montana or Wyoming. Add to this the factor of bad weather and you can be waiting for days before having your electricity back.
Environmentalists are also in favor of natural gas instead of the use of coal. Natural gas burns cleaner compared to coal. Coal on the other hand leaves large amounts of cinder as well as ash. The ash and cinders emitted by coal should be properly disposed off. So, for
