These days however, the price of gas has risen so much that we now think twice. While the price of gasoline is not as high now as it was a year or so ago, consumers still notice the difference and shop around to an extent. There is very little real profit revenue to be made from the sale of gas alone, and this is exactly why you must make the customer's visit a more rounded shopping experience. It goes without saying that if they aren't happy with their experience for one reason or another; their loyalty may be very short-lived.
One of the first things to consider when you buy a business like this, after you have assured yourself that the location is viable and looked into the other major elements, is to actually visit, without announcing yourself, to get a first impression. Is the property enticing when you are approaching and entering? Do you feel it is inviting, easy to get into, presentable and clean? Is it visible? Are the routes that you take to get there intuitive? Is there plenty of space to park and are the bays wide enough? What will consumers think -- will they have a pleasant and enjoyable experience?
Inside the convenience store, is it easy for customers to find what they're looking for? Remember that people are often in a hurry when they come to the gas station, so is the payment and checkout process adequately engineered? Not surprisingly, these simple tips can make all the difference between a truly profitable gas station, and one that just doesn't quite succeed.
Looking around the business, what does the neighboring area look like? Does it detract from any business that you would like to be involved with? Take a good look at the clientele as they come and go -- is this the type of consumer you would like to work with?
