The Millionaire Fastlane: Crack the Code to Wealth and Live Rich for a Lifetime
This is by Far the best book ever written on the subject, better than Rich Dad Poor Dad, better than Think and Grow Rich, Better than any book By Donald Trump, this book breaks it down, I am a very hard critic on books of this genre and I had to sing the authors praises publicly.
I have read a lot of the business related/entrepreneurial books out there. And one thing most of them have in common is that they lack meat. They are lots of fat and good smelling ideas, but they lack substance that is necessary to having a good, helpful source for inspiration.
What's worse is when you read a book, only to then hear shortly thereafter that the author makes tons of money running the 'freebie' workshops that are then hard-sell techniques to try and push extremely expensive workshops on people that they cannot afford. Some can, sure. But, most that can would not probably need the advice of these books, they already typically have a moderate prowess for such wealth building techniques. A friend of mine worked for a company that recently was shut down by the FTC. His arm of the company was legit, but the sales arm was using illegal sales tactics (a la running credit illegally, etc.) His job was to be the 'coach' for the people that bought the coaching service.
Anyway, my point in all this is that a lot of these wealth building books are just stepping stones to a road that leads you nowhere. They are diversionary tactics to keep you buying more and more books. These authors laud themselves off of having a billion different books on the market. So? Who needs too many books? Why not consolidate as much info into a text or two and create one text that is valuable to the reader? That is what MJ Demarco did with this book. It is good.
Of any one text out there it has the greatest amount of valuable knowledge that can be easily applied initially. He runs some pretty crazy numbers with the job world. I think it's almost sad when you read these numbers and talk with contemporaries about them and they somehow believe that they are en route to a good retirement. One thing most authors can successfully drive home is that if we are accustomed to living off of $100k/year throughout our lives, we need to have $100k/yr for our retirements, otherwise retirement will be a total bore! If people want to be in Casa de Campo for their retirement and not working nights at the Popeye's, they need to re-evaluate their numbers they are running and start to take more interest in their own financial situation. Even if it hurts.
MJ makes you hurt! We need to hurt if we will see the results! Workouts that do not create fatigue typically do not produce good results down the road. Most of the books out there will ease you into the idea that business ownership is nice and you can make good money through it, but will not take a bucket of ice water and try and make you wake up to the fact that most conventional savings methods totally suck! And the professors of finance that write most of the literature are willing to sell you a good financial plan, if you go to their $5000 seminar. (If you do not believe those numbers, I have known multiple people that worked in sales ops that specifically call people wanting to sell them wealth programs that run your credit and find the exact amount available on your credit cards and hard sell these programs. MJ and the rest are not trying to sell you this as some sort of lie. They exist and inexperienced young college students love the commissions they make off of fooling old people into buying these programs on wealth management and retirement.)
