The Importance of Outsourcing for Small Businesses Larger corporations use outsourcing to cut their overhead costs. But what businesses of all sizes may overlook are the many other benefits that come from outsourcing, particularly in the area of marketing. Running a small business requires you to wear many hats! First, you wear the hat of worker whatever products or services your business provides is something you know how to make or provide and often you must do this yourself. You wear the hat of business management and are responsible for hiring the right people to help you get the job done. You wear the hat of bookkeeper and/or payroll officer- making sure that sales and expenses are recorded and employees are paid. The more hats you wear, the less efficient you will become and the less likely you are to increase the success and profitability of your company. Smart business owners realize the need to seek help in the areas of expertise where they are lacking. And the truly savvy ones realize that it is cheaper- and generally produces a higher quality of work- if they outsource this work to a qualified expert or company. Benefits of Outsourcing Reduce costs a major reason companies begin outsourcing work is to reduce their cost of doing business. When you work with outside contractors and companies, you aren't required to provide employee benefits like medical or vacation time, you don't need office space for them, and you only pay for the work delivered rather than a weekly salary. Your savings can then be used for marketing and growing your business. Reduce training expenses and time many businesses have a need for short-term help for specific projects or tasks involved with growing the business. Hiring and training staff for short-term projects is time consuming and expensive. Using temporary employees may leave you unsatisfied, but outsourcing to companies and individuals experienced in the particular task you need is both a time saver and money saver. The less time you spend training employees, the more time you can spend on income-producing activities. Increased efficiency you cannot possibly be an expert in all areas of running and operating your business. What's more, you can't possibly find the time to wear all the hats required in your business, day after day. Eventually, you'll start doing each task with less quality in order to fit in all the work that needs to be done. Using outside provider's to handle certain tasks of your business gives you a competitive advantage as it allows you to focus your efforts on what you do best and the overall quality of what your business does will increase when you're not trying to do it all on your own. Level the field and look bigger than you are small businesses can't afford the resources that larger companies can maintain. You're payroll budget is smaller. By outsourcing, you can compete with larger companies by increasing your own efficiency and access to expertise. Benefits of Marketing Outsourcing In addition to these standard benefits of outsourcing tasks for your small business, there are a number of benefits to small businesses who look to outsource their marketing needs to marketing experts. The average small business owner can't afford a marketing department, and typically the marketing activities fall on the shoulders of the business owner. Most business owners are not marketing experts, but the success of the business depends greatly upon the success of that business' marketing. If you find you don't have enough time to create a marketing strategy (and follow through with it) you're a good candidate to experience the benefits of outsourcing your marketing. Benefits include: Increase your business efficiency since you can focus your own energy on your company's income-producing activities while your marketing experts focus on bringing in new business. Marketing requires a strategy and follow through to be effective. Having a team working on your marketing will improve your conversion rates drastically. Outsourcing marketing is much less expensive than hiring a full time marketing specialist in-house. I know from firsthand experience how valuable outsourcing can be. As a small business owner myself I rely on outsourcing and collaboration to run my marketing firm and serve clients. I rely on sales and advertising experts with decades of experience to help create and implement advertising strategy and sales training strategy. And I couldnt possibly produce the high quality graphic design or web design services that my design partners can. Even if I could, it wouldnt be a wise use of my time. In fact, even though I am an excellent writer, a large portion of this newsletter was outsourced to a copy writing specialist. We each used our skills and knowledge researching and writing about the subjects we know best and produced a final product better than either of us could have produced on our own.
