The Importance Of Testing And Tracking Your Online Business

Share: The reasons that testing and tracking your online business activities is important
, are many. From start to finish, testing and tracking is one of the most important activities you will do aside from actual product creation. Without testing and tracking your online efforts you will never know what works and what does not work.
The fact is, you can have loads of traffic coming to your websites and sales pages, but if you do not have adequate conversions you might be wasting your time, effort and worse, money! The only way to know for sure is to test and track.
If you know which of your online marketing strategies are working then you will know where to expand and target your efforts. Knowing where your sales are coming from, and where they're not, vastly increases your chances for success because you can refocus your marketing on what is working and stop what is not working.
The types of information to track are:
Visitors -- Where are they coming from? Are they unique or repeat visitors? How long did they stay on your site? What is your bounce rate? Did they purchase? Did they sign up for your list? How many? Are your visitors interactive?
ROI -- What is your return on investment for each approach? Do you know? How much are you earning on each separate effort?
Links -- Who is linking to you and why? Are the links from article marketing, a viral special report, pay per click (PPC) ads, organic search or other? (and which links perform better in terms of ROI?)
A or B -- Which sales page or headline in email marketing campaign works best, A or B? What is your criteria for establishing which is working best? ROI? Email sign ups?
The entire point of online marketing is to convert visitors to sales, which means dollars in your PayPal account and ultimately in your pocket. If you do not know what is working and what is not working, you are probably wasting your time doing things that have no return on investment or worse, cost you money.
For example, if you offer more than one "Buy Now" button on a sales page, which one are your readers clicking to buy? What are the words directly above the "buy now" button, what is different, what makes your readers click on a certain buy now button?
Test your headlines, your web design, your copy, the photos you use, also test the pricing and the layout of each page. Test all aspects that you can test by creating identical versions other than one "test" aspect such as the headline, copy, font or color. Testing and tracking your online business in all these aspects will help you get better at marketing and promoting your online business.
Knowing what components are working for you and how they are converting will help you know how to make them even better. You can toss what does not work and keep what does. Testing and tracking helps you avoid wasting time and resources while you establish yourself as an expert in your niche.
