The Formax Fd 8200sc Paper Shredder - A Review

Formax is perhaps not the best known paper shredder manufacturer but that's not to say they don't make great products

. If you've been thinking about purchasing a personal-sized machine, the company's FD 8200SC would be a fabulous choice. Although the machine has a couple of drawbacks, its strengths are so plentiful that not buying this device would be a mistake. Let's look at what this product can do....

Strengths:

* This is a strip-cut device that provides an adequate level of security for the destruction of everyday documents including computer printouts, correspondence, bills and more. The shreds produced are 1/8" wide.

* The 8200SC has a shredding capacity of up to 10 sheets per pass depending on the weight of the paper. It can shred up to 16 feet of material per minute.

* This machine's feed opening is 8.7 inches wide, so it can easily work with both letter- and legal-sized documents.

* Paper fasteners don't need to be removed from your document before shredding because the FD8200SC can destroy both staples and paper clips.

* One of the best things about this machine is its small size. Its dimensions are 16" (width) x 10" (depth) x 20" (height). This product can be stored right beside your desk for convenience and not take up very much room. It will be relatively easy to move too, because it only weighs 22 pounds.

* The wastebasket can hold up to 6 gallons of shreds. The basket slides out so you can easily empty it.

* This device will automatically shut down for safety reasons when either the wastebasket is full or the cabinet door is ajar. The machine also has the ability to start operating automatically when it senses paper in the feed opening.

* The blades of this product have been heat-treated for optimal performance. Plus, they require less oiling than ordinary blades.

* The 8200SC has two fantastic warranties. The first is a year's worth of coverage on the machine as whole, with an additional ten years of limited coverage on the cutting mechanism.

Weaknesses:

* The 8200SC cannot shred any plastic items including credit cards and CD's, unlike a lot of the personal-sized shredders from GBC and Fellowes.

* This machine was designed for use by one person who needs to destroy a small number of documents per day. It's not ideal for busy offices in which several people need to have access to a shredder.

* Finally, strip-cut machines don't offer as much security as their cross-cut counterparts. So if you need to shred highly classified documents, this isn't the device to use.

As mentioned above, the Formax FD 8200SC is a great machine if you need a personal-sized shredder for your office. While it does have some minor weaknesses - mainly its inability to shred plastic objects - this product would be a smart purchase due to its many strengths such as its small size, safety features, and shredding capacity. If you need a shredder for personal use, consider purchasing the 8200SC today!
