. Many today are using multi-level marketing, also called MLM or network marketing, improperly.

What are the pitfalls of a work from home MLM business and how to avoid them?

First of all, joining the wrong MLM company tops the list. Not matter how good you are at selling, if you have don't get good support from the network you joined, your business is bound to fail sooner or later.

Secondly, joining then failing to work is a widespread characteristic of those who fail to earn an income from network marketing. Sometimes people think that just joining and then emailing others or putting up one page of a fancy-looking website is enough to earn lots of money. People will not be handing you piles of cash without you going making some effort to make sales.

Thirdly, not following through on sales is a big no-no. Most people will energetically pursue customers then forget about them after one sale. MLM is geared towards making small but regular sales to a large customer base. For example, rather than selling one customer $1,500 worth of products, networks sell $10 to each customer - weekly. This means that a sales associate needs to keep in touch with his customers regularly and make sure that they are happy.

Fourthly, neglecting your recruits is practically business suicide when it comes to MLM. The fact of the matter is, the number of active and dedicated associates you work with is crucial to your success. If you do not take proper care of you recruits, they will leave the company, taking away with them your potential online earnings.

Fifthly, making wild unbelievable claims about network marketing will only hinder your cause, not help it. Telling people that they will be making a million dollars in a month is obviously a lie or an exaggeration. This won't help you get good recruits.

Sixthly, neglecting to use the products or service that you are promoting with your company. You cannot only talk about the product or the service. This is very hypocritical. You have to be a product of the product or service you are promoting. You have to use it yourself.

Lastly, giving up after a week is a common mistake. Networking can be a fun and easy way of marketing products but it does need time to build up. A large network of people does not spring up overnight, it needs to be carefully built from the ground up.
