Strategic Review For Magazines Giant

Strategic Review For Magazines Giant

New media jobs may be created in publishing after IPC Media revealed a strategic review of its niche and specialist titles.

Evelyn Webster chief executive officer said that the review may lead the firm to sell some of its smaller titles to publishers where they would have a stronger strategic fit and benefit from stronger focus.

IPC began its strategic review after a restructuring in January that reduced its five divisions to three, focusing on audience groups of men, mass-market women and upmarket women.

Ms Webster said: "This restructure was the first phase in realising our long-term strategy and is working well. While print remains the engine that drives our business, we are increasingly focussing on accelerating the development of our multi-platform offerings to our consumers."

IPC Media publishes over 85 media brands, in print and online, including titles such as Amateur Gardening, Marie Claire, Guitar & Bass, Hair, Horse and Hound, NME and World Soccer.

Employees have been assured that while IPC are considering selling some of their smaller publications it is unlikely that new media jobs will be lost during the restructuring.

A spokesman for IPC said "Closure and job cuts are not in our thinking as we enter the review."

Research by IPC revealed that its print brands reach almost two thirds of British women and nearly half of British women, which equates to a market of almost 27 million UK adults.

IPC recently announced that Jade Bousefield would be appointed to the new media jobs role of Sponsorship and Brand Solutions manager.

"Brands like Nuts, Loaded, NME and Uncut are among the most famous and innovative in UK media. The chance to work with them, across print, digital, events and beyond, to develop genuinely unique solutions for clients was just too good to miss," she said.

Ms Bousefield joined IPC in 2004, working in classified sales, before being promoted to senior classified sales and then senior sales on Live, the live music advertising across NME and Uncut.

Ms Bousefield joined the display team in 2006 on the Men & Music brands, and was promoted to the role of senior sales executive in 2008.

In other new media jobs news Marketforce, the UK's leading newstrade sales, marketing and distribution company, announced the appointment of David Francis to the role of Retail Sales Director last month.

Mr Francis joins the Marketforce Management Board and will work closely with IPC Media brands and Marketforce's Independent Publishing Group of publishers.
