So you think you are going along nicely in life

This poses distinctly new challenges for us. If life cannot take us on a straight path, then it follows that the path must be curved and of course then the curve must go up or down. Therein lie some of our most important life decisions.
In his book, the Slight Edge, Jeff Olsen advises us that the direction of our curve depends on our understanding and use of the Slight Edge. A "few simple disciplines repeated everyday" will ensure our path takes that upward curve, while a "few simple errors in judgment" will ensure we end up on the slipper slope of the downward curve.
The Slight Edge is always working in our lives whether we understand it or not. And it is either working for us or against us, there is no neutral ground. As time goes on the curve gets steeper, great if you are going up, otherwise very unforgiving, leading to a life of regret and bitterness which unfortunately befalls 95% of people in all walks of life.
Armed with this knowledge, it is incumbent on us all, for our own benefit and for the good of all and our efforts to earn money form home to get ourselves firmly on the upward curve. To live life as it is meant to be lived - to our fullest potential. You won't see a difference tomorrow or even next week, maybe not even next month, but if applied consistently the results will come, and once they start to appear, like the water hyacinth, they will come in abundance.
Time can be your friend or your ally in your endeavors. Know for sure that nothing of lasting value or meaning will come overnight. Yes you may strike it lucky, have a windfall or win the lottery, but this is short lived success. But will luck last, what happens when the money runs out, have you a plan to maintain and replenish it. Is winning the lottery the secret to living a fulfilled life? Indeed many lottery winners lose it all within a relatively short space of time.
Success is therefore what comes of "little disciplines" done consistently, daily over a long period of time, not a short burst of activity that runs out of steam after the first hurdle.
You will come across many obstacles in your road to success. Unfortunately, for many, seeing you achieve makes them look even more of a failure, so they will do their best to pull you down, to rubbish what you are doing, and like the frog in my earlier story, they will try to convince you that there are no happy endings, that effort is not rewarded.
We all have heard too many 'no's' in our lives. We constantly tell children, you can't do this and you can't do that, mainly for good intentioned reasons, but we have to be careful that we do not program them to grow up with the I can't mentality.
Many of us indeed were raised with constant no's, so we now can blame our parents and society in general for our lack of action. However in my opinion, once you reach adulthood, you should take full responsibility for the direction your life goes in. Regardless of your past you can make the choice, the upward, or the downward curve. The results will be yours, so the only person that can take the action is you.
We all have a past, even successful entrepreneurs. Its how we deal with it that will distinguish us. Learn from your past, don't dwell in it. The only thing we can change is the future and the sooner we start the better.
The future is your friend. It is more that worth it to sit down and spend some serious time making a vision for your future and planning for it. Once you have this vision, make up your mind that every day you will put time into making that vision a reality.
