If you have an internet business, a crucial tool that you will want to have for your site is an Opt-In List

What this list does is help an internet-based company to market whatever it is that they are selling. On your site, there should be a place that a person can sign up to receive emails, newsletters or other publications about your site and what you are selling. A person will fill out a small form, called an Opt-In Form, with their name and email address, giving the site permission to send publications to them.
If the person has consented to the publication, then it will not be received as spam. You will have a greater chance that the person will not just send the mailing straight to trash. Instead this is something that they will read because they have subscribed to receiving it.
How you go about building your list is very crucial to the success of your business. A lot of people find that receiving mailings from someone they did not subscribe to very annoying and will delete it or set it as spam. If you can provide the potential client with a good publication, then you will most likely acquire them as a customer. You should also have good article content within your website. Once you get a client there, you will want them to see all of what you have to offer, and a sure way to do this is to grab their attention with good content.
An opt-in list is not just a marketing ploy; you can actually acquire profits using this list. The more subscribers on your list, the more profits you can make. Here are several ways to make money with just using your list.
1. Advertisements. A good way to get the word out is to advertise. There are many ways to advertise. You can have banners from other companies put on your site. This is called affiliate marketing. You are paid to advertise other companies on your webpage.
2. Put links of other companies on your site that is in the same market that you are in. Every time someone comes to your page and clicks on a link to another company's site, you get paid. This is what is known as Paying for Performance (p4p).
3. You can make arrangements with other companies that for every customer from your list that buys from them, you can receive a percentage from each sale.
4. Another way to make money is to sell another company's wares through your publication for a percentage. This is called selling on consignment. This can be a very lucrative business.
5. If you like writing articles, you could write articles on how to do something and sell it on your site. There are lots of eBooks and how-to manuals on the internet from A to Z. These books are in demand and people are willing to buy these books on certain topics.
6. Use your opt-in list to create a network. This means, get the people on your list to invite others to join your list, and you could offer them an incentive to do this for you. This generates more traffic and profit to your site. The larger the list, the more money is made, for you and for the companies that advertise on your site.
If your clients know and trust you and what you are saying and promoting, then they will be willing to purchase that information from you. Your list is what is going to make your business grow, but you have to use it to your advantage.
