Kids are learning it at school, we've all heard about it - it has become an environmental mantra. Our family recycles where we can - paper, tins plastic, compost. We reduce our impact by having one car that we use sparingly, grow organic vegetables, and looking how we can reduce what we add to landfill. Sharing resources is a socially responsible choice that will have significant impact on the world we leave our children. Small changes by lots of people make a big difference.
But it's reuse that is my favorite. It just has so many possibilities. It makes you think harder and out side of the box. In my research I have come across an amazing number of sites with great tips and advice such as 50 ways to reuse your sweaters and 20 ways to reuse egg cartons! It's fantastic that people are sitting down and looking at what they are no longer using and how it can be further used. Save the Environment and Make Money Whilst You Do It!
Reusing things not only delays them becoming waste but saves all the energy and raw materials that would have gone into manufacturing something new and the emissions that would have been generated in the process Obviously reusing things can save you money but now it can make you money too. There are websites growing around the world encouraging reuse and resource sharing. There are websites that offer people a platform to share and borrow things from their community. There are things we use occasionally and there are people with things they need occasionally, not everyone needs to own a lawnmower, a tent or a power drill.
We all have things we don't use very often, by sharing resources in this way can we can increase the value of the things we own, reconnect with our community, reduce our impact on the environment as well as making and saving money.
