Design and build
ASUS G73 is no stealth look, with non-traditional shape of the angled surfaces and sharp lines, which is specifically the influence of modern stealth aircraft. . Rear projection is particularly aggressive with angled outlet.
G73 physical size is intimidating, even in comparison with other 17-inch notebooks. The chassis is actually angled 5 degrees up, which gives your notebook to feel more assertive and helps the ergonomics. Notebook has a rubberized coating, which is a nice touch and adds a measure of sustainability.
G73 has a strong build quality, but it feels very solid(and heavy), when it takes place. The notebook is made entirely of thick and of good quality plastic. The chassis is very resistant to twisting and size as the palm rest barely flex under pressure. The lid has excellent support from two large and strong screen hinge. Panel itself is insufficient and thread less than most 17-inch notebooks. Moreover, no wrinkles appear on the display when the pressure is on the back of the screen. Overall, the G73 is impressive both in quality and design departments.
Screen and speakers
G73JH is equipped with 17.3-inch screen with full HD(19201080) resolution with backlight LED. The display has a shiny surface that helps make the colors more vivid, but it suffers as a result of reflection. The display is a word, beautiful. It is very pleasant to use for games and multimedia. Viewing angles are average, little change in color from side to side. However, the colors wash out and darken quickly from above and below.
high-resolution display as well, which is appreciated. The full HD resolution, its easy to view two windows side-by-side, does not shrink them too much. Higher resolution helps to bring out finer details in games, and reduces the amount of scrolling required when surfing the web.
G73 has two stereo speakers located below the display and a small subwoofer. Reasonably loud speakers and there is no measurable bass. For non-notebook is more than acceptable.
Keyboard and Touchpad
G73 has a full-size keyboard with separate numeric keypad. The keyboard has a Chiclet keyboard or in the style of the island, where the keys are raised above the surface of the keyboard and has more than normal spacing. The keyboard has a soft, rubber does not feel(bad) and makes typing easy. While some flex is evident when you type on the keyboard and can be a bit better support, these two factors do not affect its usefulness. The touch is appropriate, but could be improved if the keys no longer throw.
G73 keyboard is backlit and looks good in the dark. We want that the keys have non-slip rubber finish, which adds durability and makes them more comfortable to use over extended periods of time. Keyboard layout around the numeric keypad is a bit squashed, as if all the keys are more or less expected items. Overall, we like the keyboard and have no major qualms with it.
Very large touchpad sits slightly off center on the left side of the chassis to the line from the keyboard. It has very much appreciated matt surface that is easy to follow, regardless of whether the fingers are wet or dry. The right side of the touchpad is a dedicated scroll zone, however, required large amounts of pressure to use. Unfortunately, the touchpad buttons are in the first paragraph. In a quiet, are more difficult to push down than expected, and we do not like that they are contained in a single piece of plastic.
Ports and Features
Given its size, the G73 has a relatively limited number of input and output ports. All descriptions are from left to right.
left: Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, optical drive, USB 2.0, microphone and headphone jack
Right Side: The media card reader, 2x USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA and power
Back: Vent, battery, Kensington Lock slot, and an outlet
Front: Light Status
